Smoothies and Milkshakes | Recipes

This is quite sad, but one of the things I miss about living in the UK is Costa and Starbucks. I do know there is a Costa at the airport and a Starbucks in the city, however there isn’t one near me! So I have resulted in making my own drinks! I am not a tea or coffee person but I do like a Frappachino!

When we got here, we went shopping and I persuaded my parents to buy a blender. For
some reason I have always like the idea of owning a blender! It weird but they are brilliant! Since we have been here I have experimented with a variety of fruit to make smoothies and recently I’ve made milkshakes however they are a ‘bit’ more calorific!

I thought I would share two really easy ways to create one smoothie and one milkshake!

The smoothie is healthier than the milkshake with the use of fruit, if it is entirely fruit based than that is brilliant however for this I used a juice. It is really simple. All I did was cut up a box of strawberries, slicing them in half and in some cases quarters then placed them in the blender. I blended them for about 30 seconds. After there are no lumps left in the mixture I added a Pineapple & Coconut Juice to add more flavours into it. I then poured them into 2 glasses and added a star and fancy ‘Swizzle’ Stick to make them look more interesting. To keep them cool I placed them in the fridge and after half an hour they are ready to drink cool. If not you could leave them over night and use them as I breakfast drink. Making a smoothie  is a good way to get your five a day, and to eat healthy in an easy way

My favourite smoothie so far is a Pineapple, Coconut, Mango & Peach Smoothie made with all fresh fruit!

For the milkshake, I normally make it for a desert. I don’t have it often as it is quite sugary and definitely not as healthy as the smoothie. For this you need 120g of your favourite chocolate, you can use fruit if you like, but for this I used Milka. You then need 2 large scoops of soft scoop – vanilla Ice cream, add this into the blender with chocolate. Either after or while the chocolate and Ice Cream are blending you can add milk or cream. I personally prefer but it tastes good with either. The amount of milk / cream you add depends on the thickness you want your milkshake, I normally add around 100ml but it can vary depending on personal taste.

My favourite milkshakes have to be with either Cadbury dairy milk, or Terry’s Chocolate Orange. I don’t have the milkshake very often, which makes it taste better when I do!
Sorry fot the picture, if you cannot understnad the ingredients as they are in spanish, but you should be able to know what they are! :D
These are very simple recipes and easily adaptable. Blending food is brilliant because it is quick, easy and you get a nice tasting drink at the end of it! It is also less expensive than going to Costa!
