Things to do before Uni?

It's been a couple of weeks since that nail biting few days of result time and thankfully I had gotten into my first choice university! (I apologise to my parents profusely for the hormonal mood swings over  that time) Since then I have been full of excitement, anticipation and nervs.
In preparation to pull my life together and sort it out before I move in a few weeks, I've found I have been surrounded by never ending lists; shopping lists, enrolment lists, packing lists, reading lists and it goes on. So I thought I would compile my own list of the things I feel will make the move a little bit easier, with less things to work out when I get there, which means more time for freshers and fun.

These are just things I have done,
  • Firstly when your settle and have a confirmed place, confirm or find accommodation, once you have your room you can magically find other people close by or in the same flat through the means of social network. Getting to know potential flat mates and course mates online will make everything a tad easier. You can ask question and help each other out, it's also good to sort what your planning to do for freshers, so your not all in different places
  • Next I'd pay off any fees, for my campus we are divided into colleges, which we pay a small fee for, sorting things like this out now, means you don't have to worry about it later and your parents may even pay it for you.
  • My mum spent  days nagging me to sort out and transfer my GP and Dentist, although it may not seem like an urgent thing to do, it is always handy to sort out as you never know what is going to happen.
  • Working out a weekly budget and sorting all the boring bank stuff. It's pretty standard to for student's to get a Student bank account, but look around a bit as different banks may offer different benefits, some may offer travel passes, different amount over drafts and others may even provide discounts to shops and restaurants.  While working out your budget, can give you a rough amount of what to spend each week, where as it can also provide an indicator of whether you may want to consider getting a part time job.
  • Writing lists is a good thing, write an essential, not a I want but an essential list, to cover the basis, if your travelling a long way it could make things easier, or if your struggling on car space etc. Write the basics for the Kitchen, Bathroom and Bedroom. There are gonna be local shops available and a shopping trip with your new friend can always be a good ice breaker.
