Travelling Essentials | Short Haul Flights
Over the past couple of years, I have been lucky enough to experience a wide variety of things and visit places and do things I have never done before. While living in Spain has given my a great opportunity, it has resulted in a fair few flights back to the UK. While there have been plenty of other flights and visits to other countries.
Now I've gotten to that point, where I am moving out. I won't just be living apart from my family, I'll be living in a different country to them. So visiting will increase my flight time. I thought I would share my absolute musts, for short haul flights.
For my bag, I prefer to go with a backpack / rucksack, I don't mind travelling with another type of bag, depending on where I am going and what I am doing. However I find a rucksack is easy to carry, it means less juggling between say handbags, suitcases and outer clothing. Also if your bag tends to be quite heavy, having a rucksack is easier than having everything pulling down on side.
When I have traveled before I tend to over pack on the hand luggage, so now I try to keep it simple. A must is your passport, as you will never get anywhere without it and a boarding pass. The other items are pretty standard, my mobile, very few people don't have one and it allows easy communication and can do pretty much everything a computer does.
The same goes for the iPad. I tend to take my iPad pretty much everywhere with me, it's light and provides quick and easy entertainment; books, movies, games, internet access. On a two hour flight, having a movie downloaded is always going to make the time go quicker.
I also like to take a book, not one necessarily as thick as this one, however I do love Game of Thrones, so I thought I'd give the books ago, so that is the reason for that one. Then I have my headphones, although you can listen to music and watch movies without them, I guess it is out of politeness to others to listen to audio through them as not everyone wants to be hearing what your up to and I am sure there may be things you do not want others to listen to.
Another pretty standard item, is your wallet and I do not think I am going to need a long winded explanation telling you why. Additionally I always carry my sunglasses on me because your never 100% sure what the whether will be like. Although my next trip is to the UK, where it is supposedly rain and cloud, I am pretty sure I will wear them somewhere on my journey.
Then I have a hair brush, as if anyone has hair like mine, sitting back on a chair for two hours can cause my hair to become matted and start to form its own little dreadlock, so for myself a hair brush is essential and it is also a lovely feeling to have brushed hair after being caught in the wind when your outside.
A lip balm is another handy idea, on longer flights I would normally take more skin care products as my skin can become quite dry however on shorter flights I keep it to lip balm most the time, to stop those dry lips.
Finally a jumper, I see a lot of people travel without jumpers, maybe because they are traveling to a hot country or because they cannot feel the cold. However I almost always find that when we get into the air the temperature of the plain drops and I freeze. Is it just me? So I always take a jumper, it is simultaneously something comfy to wear and something you can use as cushion or blanket. While carrying a jumper means you do not have to put one in your suitcase. Linking back to the sunglasses, you do not know what the weather is going to be like when you land.
I hope this help, I feel like it is a pretty obvious selection of items however it is what normally goes into my hand luggage.
