The Reality of Freshers Week | First Year

So there's no point in denying, every upcoming fresher is interested in what they should expect, from their course, the people they meet and what is going to happen. It's always good to experience things yourself, so you have nothing to compare your experience with others. Simultaneously it is always nice to have a slight idea of what to expect. So here is the reality of my freshers week.

* It will be a constant 2 week hangover, expect nothing less, if your the party type, then expect it. Also don't be embarrassed about your drunken antics, it makes for an easier ice breaker.

*Say good-bye to your loan, although you should have a lovely sum of money in your bank, Freshers week will make a dent. You may plan to budget but something will come up, where your gonna have to break it.

*With an increase in partying and the start of your course, say good-bye to sleep. Although you may only have to pass the first year, the late nights and early mornings are a killer. Even when you don't go out,  your likely to procrastinate or be kept away by flatmates.

*You will discover you have forgotten something you need, whether its coat hangers for your closet or your kitchen equipment, there will be something but don't stress, you can always get things there or if your lucky you can borrow someone else's.

*Say hello to laziness. Alright you may not be lazy, but your not gonna care about what you turn up to lectures in after a night out - sweatpants and leggings become "bae", the work will be left to the last minute, takeaway will become your friend and if you don't have to get up, you most certainly wont.

* If your one of the very few to escape the common freshers flu, then I envy you, from the first week of term, to the last. You will likely have at least a cough. Even when you think you have gotten over it, you will venture on an night out and it will hit you again the next day.  From everyone I have spoken to, it won't go, until you go home for christmas. (I'm looking forward to it)

* Societies and clubs are hyped up a lot, its true you should join one, you don't have too but you could at best try one, however it's true - do not go sighing up to everything and writing your email on every form you get handed. The string of emails is endless and that's forgetting the ones from your course, the uni and everything else.

*If your anything like me, I was pretty determined to have a job, while being at Uni I had a couple of interviews and trials but in the end I didn't get one. For me I saw it as a benefit, it gave me more time to settle in and get used to everything. I will look at getting a job but in reality it's unlikely you will get one in the first few weeks.

* Now your at Uni, you do not need to spend the extra money on a NUS card. Although it can be beneficial in some shops, your university card is 99% successful in most places.

*There will be three main questions in freshers week. What's your name? Where you from? What course you studying? (if your at a collegiate college, then there will be four - what college you in?) You'll be sick of saying the same things, especially as the majority of people  you meet, will mostly stay as 'Facebook Friends'

*At the end of a night, the closest fast food restaurant will mean everything. You will not care about what you order and who watches you eat, every bite will be delicious and it will not be a waste, unless you end up with your head down the toilet.

* Take every opportunity to get free things, don't care who's judging you free pizza is everything, on the subject of pizza, you will discover dominoes is expensive and the local pizza takeaway will be a must!

*Fire alarms - the bane of any students life. be prepare to be awaken, disturbed and interrupted at the most irritating times. (someone will be in the shower)

* There is never enough pasta, (don't forget the cheese)
